We’ll find several ways for you to have hardcopy of the course materials. I will try to get several hardcopies to the class each time we meet. The materials will always be placed online. We always have a projection in class.
Note: I custom teach each class which, after 10 years of undergrad and MBA teaching, I find to be the optimal method for interest and relevancy.
Remember: There are also the course textbooks in the library which you can use.
1) Hand in this week’s homework. Any comments?
“How to be an intelligent Israeli consumer and not pay too much.” Comments on returned homework?
2) To be debated in small groups...and very briefly bring findings to entire class.
a. Is it to the government’s internal and external advantage if racism exists (divide and conquer)?
b. Who are you? One example: What is the group of your origin?
c. Class is different than race.
d. When will Russians be accepted and considered Israelis?
e. Do you think you’re better? Than who? Why? Are you better than me? In what way?
f. Is there a trans-national person? No country, race, culture, affiliation.
g. Do you fear rapid 3rd world population growth? immigration?
h. Are you racist? Explain.
i. Who do you hate? Fear?
j. Why do you give me your Ids on each homework assignment?
k. Is each race OK? Is there or can you imagine a race that is not OK?
l. Will race eventually disappear due to increasing intermarriage?
m. Is it OK to prefer some races over others? Which do you prefer?
n. Is the world better or worse for having many races?
o. Is racial variety the spice of life? Where do we draw the line re: the extent of the spice?
p. Is it wrong to ask what nationality a stranger is?
q. Is your culture changing due to your US teachers?
r. Am I changing because of you?
s. Did Madeline Albright forget she was Jewish? What is Waldheimer’s disease?
t. Does race exist due to fear or is it vice versa?
u. All races have not achieved the same. Explain.
v. What races have a less developed culture?
w. Is there anything wrong with discriminating against someone?
x. How would you teach stopping racism in society?
y. Does racism exist in order to dominate others and push yourself forward?
z. What are appropriate and inappropriate ways of judging others?

Following the model in the “Old World New World-British, French, Germans, US,” lecture, develop your own short dialogue representing an interaction between an American and an Israeli. You have the example of the dialogue between Susan and Arabella, and between Natasha and Sharon.
Then, explain what the specific cultural differences are between the American and the Israeli in your dialogue.
No books please! Right to the point, short, and clear is what we all like!
