Dear Sunday Cultural Diversity Students:                   22/8/02

Here is the final exam as requested.  I have selected problems mainly from the end of the course.  If you wish, you may still do a final presentation instead of the final exam.  Or, if you are a "janana" cultural diversity student and can't ever get enough of it you may do both the final exam and final presentation!  But I do not recommend it if it creates excessive "atsabim"!

We'll set aside time in class this Sunday to go over and do the exam.  Or, you can go ahead and do it at home and bring it to class this Sunday.

Good luck!

Mark

In the following two conversations, explain in 1-2 paragraphs what you think is going on.  In other words, explain the conversation.  Another way to say this:  What are the cultural issues in the conversations?

1. Americans and Germans

Ralph (an "Americai"):  Something tells me we should try this approach.
Greta (a German):  Something you read?
Ralph:  No.  It's just a hunch I've got.
Greta:  A feeling, you mean?
Ralph:  Right.  I can't really explain it, but I'm usually right about these things.

2. Americans and the French

Philippe (a Frenchman):  Le Clos' data is late again.
Marcia (an American):  Let's give him another day.  Something must have happened.
Philippe:  Something always happens.  It's been six months now.  There's definitely a pattern here.
Marcia:  He tries hard, though.  I'm sure he's doing his best.
Philippe:  Why do you say that?
Marcia:  He told me how much this contract means to him.
