Dear Students, June 16, 2002
Welcome to Cultural Diversity!
This is a very broad field covering many social sciences such as anthropology, political science, economics, and psychology. Business is also represented.
In this course you must learn to be good hunters and learners about culture. As a professional cross-cultural consultant www.third-culture.com , I will be your guide.
I have lived and studied in several countries and speak French, Italian, Czech, Chinese, and Malay/Indonesian. I am always learning more about cultures.
I will not be your only guide. You will be guided by some of the best professors in the world and assisted by the comments and advice of your fellow classmates.
How to be a good hunter:
· Use all your senses; smell, touch, sight, and hearing.
· Practice considering things from different perspectives.
Examples: Be a student in the classroom for ten minutes with your eyes closed~Takes notes for ten minutes with your opposite hand~Have very good ear plugs on in the classroom for ten minutes~Learn a foreign language~Do something you have never tried but would hate like folk dancing.
